The Denver Broncos beat the Seattle Seahawks 17-14 in overtime on Thursday night, October 15, after a late Seattle rally forced the game beyond regulation. Wil Lutz's 53-yard field goal delivered the win, but the final score only tells part of the story: Seattle generated far more offense, while Denver's defense made the decisive plays when the game was on the line.

Quick answer: Denver won 17-14 in overtime. Ja'Quan McMillian intercepted Sam Darnold in overtime to set up Lutz's winning kick. Darnold finished with 278 passing yards, two interceptions and no touchdown passes; Seattle receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba had 12 catches for 134 yards.

How Denver survived Seattle's late comeback

The Broncos built a 14-3 halftime lead through second-quarter rushing touchdowns by J.K. Dobbins and RJ Harvey. Seattle struggled to turn possession into points for much of the middle of the game, but the Seahawks made a fourth-quarter push. George Holani scored from one yard out, and a two-point conversion pass from Darnold to Rashid Shaheed cut the gap to three.

Jason Myers then connected on a 34-yard field goal with three seconds remaining to tie the game at 14-14. That comeback gave Seattle a chance to steal a road win despite its earlier offensive problems. In overtime, however, Darnold's pass was intercepted by Denver cornerback Ja'Quan McMillian at Seattle's 43-yard line. The Broncos moved into range, and Lutz converted from 53 yards to end the game.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba delivered the biggest receiving performance

Smith-Njigba was Seattle's leading receiver, finishing with 12 receptions for 134 yards. His production kept the Seahawks moving even as Denver's pass rush made life difficult for Darnold. The quarterback completed 27 of 51 attempts, threw no touchdown passes and was intercepted twice. Those turnovers proved especially costly because Seattle had enough yardage and late-game momentum to make the finish competitive.

For Denver, the win was an example of defense and field position compensating for a limited passing attack. Bo Nix completed 17 of 27 passes for 107 yards without an interception. Dobbins and Harvey supplied the Broncos' touchdowns on the ground, and the defense delivered the two takeaways that ultimately decided the night.

What the result means for both teams

Denver can take confidence from winning a close game despite producing only 168 yards of total offense according to Reuters' game report. The defense created the key turnover, and Lutz handled the pressure of a long kick in overtime. Still, the Broncos will have questions about sustaining drives if the passing game remains quiet.

Seattle's concern is different: the offense moved the ball and had a chance to win, but interceptions and sacks undermined that work. A 3-3 record leaves the Seahawks with room to recover, yet consecutive losses make ball security and pass protection immediate priorities. The takeaway is not that one team dominated every phase. Denver won the decisive moments; Seattle's yardage advantage did not translate into enough points.
