Quick answer: Roblox says The Hollow is intended for players ages 9 and older in most regions. Access can vary by region and account type, so younger players and parents should check the event listing and the account’s content settings before launch. Roblox’s general age-based safety rules also affect which experiences and communication features a child can use.
The important distinction is that an event’s intended age range is not the same thing as a guarantee that every linked game, chat feature, or reward is available to every account. For families, checking the actual account settings is more useful than relying on a viral post or a fan-made age-rating graphic.
What is The Hollow’s age rating?
In its October 21, 2026 announcement, Roblox said The Hollow would be available to people with a Roblox Select or Roblox account who are ages 9 and older in most regions. The company also notes that age and access may vary by region. That means families should treat “9+ in most regions” as the broad event guidance, then verify the experience’s live listing and their account’s eligibility.
The Hollow is a Halloween survival event with horror-themed characters, mazes, clues, and monsters. Even when content is designed for a broad audience, the atmosphere may still feel intense for some children. Parents should consider a child’s comfort with suspense and frightening imagery as well as the platform’s stated age guidance.
Can children under 9 join The Hollow?
Roblox’s announcement describes the event as available to players ages 9 and older in most regions, with regional differences possible. Do not assume that an under-9 account can join simply because a friend shares a link. If the event does not appear or the account is blocked, check the official event page and the child’s account settings rather than trying to bypass the restriction.
Roblox’s newer account types also affect access. In most regions, age-checked children ages 5–8 are placed in Roblox Kids accounts, while ages 9–15 are placed in Roblox Select accounts. These account types have different content catalogs and communication protections. Exact availability can vary by region and by the game’s maturity label.
What can younger Roblox players access?
- Roblox Kids accounts: In most regions, these accounts are designed for ages 5–8 and are limited to experiences with Minimal or Mild content ratings. Chat is off by default.
- Roblox Select accounts: In most regions, these are designed for ages 9–15. They can access experiences rated up to Moderate, subject to Roblox’s catalog rules and parental settings.
- Content May Vary experiences: These may have additional age and parental-approval restrictions. Roblox says access can differ by region, and users under 16 may need a parent to allow the experience.
- Communication features: Chat and other social features may have separate age-check and account requirements. Being able to open an event does not automatically mean every communication feature is available.
How parents can check access and safety settings
- Open Roblox’s official website or app and review the child’s account settings.
- Check the account’s content maturity setting and parental controls.
- Open The Hollow through an official Roblox event link and read the live access information.
- If a game or feature is blocked, review the on-screen explanation and parental controls instead of using third-party workarounds.
- Talk with the child about horror content, chat privacy, and never sharing passwords, verification codes, or account cookies.
Roblox explains its current rules in its official Age-Restricted Content support guide and its Safety FAQs. Because platform rules can change, use those pages and the live account controls as the final reference.
Is The Hollow suitable for every child who meets the age guidance?
Not necessarily. Age eligibility is a platform guideline, not a personal recommendation for every child. The Hollow’s horror theme includes monsters and survival gameplay. A child who dislikes jump scares, tense chases, or dark settings may prefer a less frightening Halloween experience. Parents can preview the event, play together, and stop if the content becomes uncomfortable.
Roblox’s official announcement also points families toward other Halloween activities, including family-oriented options. The best choice is the experience that fits the child’s maturity, comfort level, and account settings—not simply the event that is trending.
