Not the Antichrist. Not another Michael Langdon. Something older. Something the show itself has already told us sits “above the Antichrist’s pay grade.”
After the premiere night drop of “13,” “1:13 AM,” and “Rauhnacht,” the evidence is stacking up faster than the body count. For American audiences watching on FX and Hulu, this is the first time in years the franchise has felt willing to name the thing it has been circling since Murder House.

Who Is Mr. Nas in American Horror Story Season 13?
Mr. Nas is introduced as an 87-year-old hospice patient living on the entire 13th floor of a New York building called the Apollyon. He is played by two actors: Fedor Steer as the frail, oxygen-dependent older version and Paul Anthony Kelly as Young Nas.
On paper he is a wealthy philanthropist. In practice he is something else entirely. Night caregiver Ben DeSoto (Joey Pollari), the plane-crash survivor hired for the job, quickly notices details that do not belong to any ordinary dying man: gray claw-like hands, a tail, cloven hooves, and moments when the old man simply vanishes from the bed only to reappear as if nothing happened.
Then comes the black vomit. And the timing of that black vomit is what turns a creepy patient into a franchise-level threat.

The Black Vomit Cannot Be Coincidence
In Episode 1, Nas begins convulsing and vomiting a thick black substance at the exact moment a plane carrying Kira and twelve of her friends goes down. Thirteen people die. Ben, sitting in seat 13F, somehow walks away.
In Episode 2, the same black substance returns while Twisty the Clown massacres thirteen people at a clown school across the country. Again, Nas is in physical distress at the precise moment the deaths occur.
Ryan Murphy has spent fifteen years training American Horror Story audiences to notice these patterns. The number 13 is not atmosphere in this season. It is the mechanism. Every time a group of thirteen dies, the man on the 13th floor reacts as if he is feeding — or suffering — in perfect sync.

Apollyon Means Destroyer
The building is not randomly named. In Revelation 9:11, Apollyon is the Greek name for the angel of the bottomless pit — the Destroyer. Episode 3 makes the connection explicit when characters are taken beneath the Apollyon and told they are standing at a portal to Hell.
Constance Langdon (Jessica Lange), who has somehow left the Murder House behind, treats Nas with a mixture of fear and reverence. She calls him the mastermind behind the Rauhnacht gathering of thirteen dead “leading ladies.” She also claims all of her children are “alive and thriving,” a statement that should freeze every longtime viewer in place.
That is not the language of a woman caring for a dying billionaire. That is the language of someone who has made a deal — or who is managing the floor for someone who has.

Ryan Murphy Already Told Us What We Are Looking At
Before the season premiered, Murphy described the central threat as an “ultimate evil” that sits above the Antichrist. He said the returning characters — even former villains — would have to unite against something bigger than anything the franchise has previously faced.
The Antichrist has already been done. Michael Langdon is history. What sits above that level in Christian and occult mythology is the Adversary himself. Mr. Nas is not a patient. He is the reason the patient exists.
Using Fedor Steer and Paul Anthony Kelly for the same character is not just casting convenience. It signals that Nas exists across time. The young version and the ancient version are the same entity wearing different skins. That is classic Devil mythology: the face changes, the nature does not.
The Strongest Counter-Argument (And Why It Falls Apart)
Some viewers still argue Nas could be a powerful demon or even Apollyon the angel rather than Satan himself. The distinction may end up being academic. In the language of the show, the building is named after the Destroyer, the portal sits underneath it, and the man on the 13th floor appears to feed on groups of thirteen deaths.
Whether he is the Devil or the angel of the abyss, he is the force the entire crossover season is organizing itself against. Related reading: Is Ben already dead? and Club Hell explained.

FAQ: Is Mr. Nas the Devil in American Horror Story Season 13?
Is Mr. Nas confirmed to be the Devil?
No official confirmation yet. After three episodes the evidence is strong but still circumstantial. Ryan Murphy’s pre-premiere comments about an “ultimate evil” above the Antichrist remain the clearest external clue.
Who plays Mr. Nas in AHS 13?
Fedor Steer plays the elderly version. Paul Anthony Kelly plays Young Nas. Both appear in the first three episodes.
What does Apollyon mean in American Horror Story Season 13?
Apollyon is the Greek name for the angel of the bottomless pit in the Book of Revelation, commonly translated as “Destroyer.” The building shares the name and sits above a portal to Hell.
Why does Mr. Nas vomit black liquid?
The black vomit coincides exactly with mass deaths involving the number 13. The show presents it as a physical reaction rather than random illness.
Is Ben DeSoto already dead?
A popular fan theory holds that Ben died in the plane crash and the entire season is unfolding in a form of Hell or purgatory. The seat number 13F and his improbable survival keep the theory alive.
Season 13 is only three episodes deep and already feels like the franchise is finally willing to name the thing it has been circling for years. Whether Mr. Nas turns out to be the Devil, the Destroyer, or something the show invents for itself, one fact is already clear: the 13th floor of the Apollyon is not a place any of these characters will leave unchanged.
